Like every American, 9/11 shook Anna Quindlen to the core. Since then she had realized that security and control were merely illusions that Americans hold on to. In addition, an issue that she always thinks about since then is parenting, teaching them about independence, and over-protection. Still, whether parents do it right or provide the right kind of things for their children, something like 9/11 blindsides a family. You can teach your child to drive carefully and responsibly, but that doesn?t matter when they encounter a drunk driver roaring through a stop sign on the road. 9/11 was a wake-up call especially for parents who believed that living a certain way or doing certain things or breastfeeding or buying the safest car means everything will be well and nothing will go wrong.
