SAMPLE EXCERPT:
?What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book??
When Simonson started to write this story, her only goal was to write something for her own pleasure in a landscape she was missing a lot. It would be like ?an afternoon treat with no calories,? just for herself, not thinking of doing it for anyone else or not caring what someone else would think of it or of her. The image she had in her head was a small brick house in an English village much like the one her family lived in near Rye, except there were no ants, no rot, and no taxes. Her character is a retired person?she did not make it clear in interviews why she chose a widower like Major Pettigrew as one of her major protagonists, though we can imagine that someone like him could put a smile to her lips.
