?What was the inspiration behind the creation of this book??
One of Riggs? hobbies is collecting strange vintage photos in flea markets and antique stores in his free time, but he wasn?t really serious about them until he noticed that he was collecting a lot of creepy pictures of kids that are from as old as 80 or a hundred years ago. By this time, he has already graduated from USC and has been directing short branded films for the Internet and blogging on Mentalfloss.com. He also was with Quirk Books by then and has finished The Sherlock Holmes Handbook, the book that was tied with the 2009 release of ?Sherlock Holmes? that starred Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. When he started to have nightmares about the creepy kid photos, he approached his editor and showed him his collection and was hoping he would suggest a project about them. He was surprised when the editor suggested he make a novel out of the photos. ?String the narrative through the pictures,? he said.
