This book was conceived through research conducted for the World Bank (Washington). The text describes the property transfer mechanisms, the protection of property rights through the Land Registry, and the mortgage legislation and foreclosure procedure of Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Serbia. The study analysed both the legal systems and the organization and management of the Land Registries in an attempt to discover whether the institutional frameworks can provide secure transactions.
The research was directed by Nicolás Nogueroles Peiró, Land Registrar, PhD at Law University of Bologna, Professor of Land Law University Ramon Lull-ESADE (Barcelona) and author of various publications on property law. The research was coordinated by Celia Martinez Escribano, PhD at Law and Professor of Civil Law at the University of Valladolid, and author of several publications on the same subject.0
