Half of these rhymes talk, from their own special point of view, about thunder, the sea, the countryside, winter, the sun, and other natural things that form part of daily life and engage childrens interest strongly. The other 14 poems give a melodic handling of things that are normal too, and yet still have that tinge of enchantment that innocence gives them, like how hard you have to try in order to learn how to read, what its like to be scared of ogres and witches, and how family relations work.
These poems work to develop childrens sensitivity and imagination so they can see daily events as something wonderful.
