Fr‚d‚rique Mahieu, master dry stone waller, wrote the text and founded the Espai de Pedra Seca, at the S_Hostal quarries, which are run by the cultural foundation, the Fundaci¢ L¡thica. She combines dry stone walling with her work as an educator, taking part in congresses about Stone. She combines her technical, cultural and educational expertise with a commitment to highlighting the value of one of the island_s home-grown traditional crafts. The Paris-based photographer, Laurence Toussaint turns her attention to the humble craft of dry stone walling. The craft brings a human element to the landscape and the stone itself, through structures by anonymous architects who have left a monumental imprint bearing witness to a unique identity and cultural tradition. Her lens captures the essence of a place to share it in an artistic, photographic act.0
