The increasing interest in climatic change and in the future climate on Earth, both major themes in the media, gives rise to a great number of disturbing uncertainties for the citizens of the 21st century. The news we read in the press about climatic change frequently adopts a catastrophic tone that infects us and from which it is diffi cult to escape. To be able to respond to the question that is the title of this book we must be able to distinguish between the reality created by the media and the climatic reality that defi nes the climatic system’s true behaviour.
