(Abstract: MERCE RODOREDA - Cries and silence in The Diamond Square - The Diamond Square by Mercè Rodoreda is one of the most important and beautiful novels published in the XX Century. For its construction of speech, use of symbols, plurality of experiences, etc. it can be read in different ways. That what Josefa Buendia does and proposes in this book is of the gender category, the criticism of the reception and the feminist literary critic. Through this prism one tests how The Diamond square is an unfinished work, open to the complaints, cries, explanations and secrets of Natalia..and, from there, to reflect and imagine the life of many other Natalias. Her style of speech writing favours dialogue with the heroine, on the suggested themes and the contexts; it permits recreating characters and stories, giving form and density to their lives, putting content to their feelings and thoughts, reconstructing profiles and giving meaning to the world of the actors that compose and organize the plot of the novel. With this book on the work of Mercè Rodoreda, homage is paid to this Catalan author on her birth centenary).
