Jesus' ministry did not get off to a smooth start. Every time it seems He is ready to go, God puts it off for a little while longer. It makes no sense to us to postpone Jesus/ work. Why did God keep putting obstacles in Jesus' path? Why does God keep putting obstacles in our paths? He did it to Jesus, and He does it to us, because there are important lessons to be learned in waiting. God wants us to spend time in the desert, in the wilderness, in isolation so we learn to be completely dependent on Him. We don't like the desert, it seems like suc a waste of time. But God is quite fond of the desert. After 400 years of slavery, God used Moses to call His people out into the desert. Elijah fled into the desert to escape King Ahab. Life is full of desert experiences. Maybe, right now, you are in the desert. You are stuck in a situation in which there seems no way out, with Satan tempting you at every turn. Do you feel isolated?
