The Banyoles temple is a good example of the presence in Catalonia of the new Gothic technology. It is a building of municipal promotion, built with the only economic contest of the population, with a well defined, functional and sober pragmatic spirit. It is precisely when Santa María de los Turers was in the middle of a constructive process, that Catalonia was fully incorporated into the European cultural movement that we know as Gothic Catalan architecture, experiencing one of the most creative and singular stages, with its own specific stamp.
We hope that the publication now of the work of Pere Alsius will serve as starting point for the realization of the monographic study that Santa María de los Turers deserves and is waiting for, given that it is one of the most outstanding examples of our medieval architectural heritage of the Gothic period.
