Argumento de Burke In the Land of Silver (ebook)

A tale of spies and skulduggery in the Napoleonic Wars as Britain invades Argentina.

James Burke joins the army determined to work his way up through the ranks and become a gentleman. He never set out to be a spy. But with Napoleon rampaging through Europe, the Duke of York needs agents and Burke is plucked from the infantry and sent on a mission to the Spanish colonial backwater of Argentina. His mission is to give the country?s freedom fighters aid so that they may break free from Spanish rule at an opportune moment for Britain. Yet when Burke arrives, he finds himself falling in love, both with the Land of Silver, and Ana O?Gorman, lover of a rebel leader determined to bring about Burke?s downfall ?

Tom used to write books for business, covering everything from the gambling industry to new developments in printing technology. Now he writes about love and adventure in the 19th century, which is not nearly as well paid, but much more fun.

Tom is an enthusiastic tango dancer and has made several visits to Buenos Aires. He has fallen completely in love with Argentina and wanted to write a book set in that amazing country. The result is His Majesty's Confidential Agent .

Tom lives in London and when he's not writing or dancing, he likes to ski or street skate. In fact, he'll do almost anything to avoid honest work.

The Rochester stopped briefly at Rio de Janeiro to take on food and water before sailing on to Monte Video at the mouth of the Plate. As they arrived at the first Spanish town they had seen in the New World, Burke was on deck with the dawn. When his fellow passengers grouped round his easel to admire his efforts, he explained that he had wanted to catch the first rays of sunlight glinting on the walls of the city. Several gentlemen commented on the way that he had, indeed, caught the special quality of the light sparkling off the ocean. (?Effervescent,? declared one bewhiskered old buffer and Burke smiled politely, although all the word meant to him was liver salts.) None of his admirers noticed that, masterfully as he had captured the colour of the sky, the painting was otherwise notable mainly for the detail it provided of the defences.

Leaving Monte Video, Burke saw the water change from the blue-green of the Atlantic to the silt-laden dirty brown of the estuary of the Plate. The change in the colour of the water was the only way to see that they had moved from the open ocean, for the far shore of the river was so distant that it was invisible from the deck.0
